This specimen was lot 983 in Sincona sale 11 (Zurich, May 2013), where it sold for 3,400 CHF (about US$4,209 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''DEUTSCHLAND Sachsen, Kurfürstentum, Albertiner Johann Georg II. 1656-1680. Taler 1679, Dresden. Hksp. Sehr schön-vorzüglich.'' (Electorate of Saxony, John George II (1656-80), thaler of 1679, Dresden mint. Mount mark, very fine to extremely fine.)"</blockquote> [[German States, Saxony|Saxony]], one of the larger divisions of Germany and blessed with numerous silver mines, issued large numbers of thalers. This coin was issued by the elector of Saxony in 1678-80 but is scarce.
