The first specimen was lot 1386 in Jean Elsen sale 108 (Brussels, March 2011) where it sold for €110 (about US$183 including buyer's fee). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''NEDERLAND, GELDERLAND, Hertogdom, Filips II (1555-1581), AR halve Filipsdaalder, 1563, Nijmegen. Droit: Geharnast bb. l. Revers: Gekroond wapenschild op een Bourgondisch kruis tussen twee vuurijzers. Donkere patina. bijna Zeer Fraai'' (Duchy of Gelderland, Philip II (1555-81), silver half philippsdaalder of 1563, Nijmegen mint. Obverse: armored bust faces left; reverse: crowned arms superposed on a Burgundian cross. Nice patina, nearly Very Fine.)"</blockquote> The second specimen was lot 397 in Áureo y Calicó sale 345 (Barcelona, March 2020), where it sold for €180 (about US$238 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[2]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''1563. Felipe II. Nimega. 1/2 escudo felipe. Ex Colección Rocaberti, Áureo 19/05/1992, nº 260. Ex Colección Balsach. MBC+.'' (city of [[Netherlands, Nijmegen|Nijmegen]], Philip II, half philipsdaalder of 1563, choice very fine.)"</blockquote> The Philip II depicted here is Philip II of Spain (1556-98), who lost control of Gelderland in the 1580's when the Protestant inhabitants successfully rebelled against his attempts to reimpose Catholicism. In the southern Netherlands (Brabant and Luxembourg), this coin was called the [[Brabant 1563 1/2 ecu|''demi-écu philippe'']].
