This specimen was lot 2009 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabruck, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €65,000 (about US$90,461 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''NÜRNBERG, STADT, 5 Dukaten 1698, auf die Jahresfeier des Friedens von Rijswijk. Stadtansicht von Osten, darüber strahlender Name Jehovas, im Abschnitt MONETA REIPUB : / NORIMBERGEN - / -SIS . 1698 .//EXOPTATA DIV PAX COE : - LI EX MVNERE VENIT . (das Chronogramm ergibt die Jahreszahl 1698) Friedensgöttin mit Ölzweig und Merkurstab steht v. v. auf Sockel, darauf die Signatur GFN . (Georg Friedrich Nürnberger, Münzmeister in Nürnberg 1677-1716), unten zu den Seiten zwei Genien mit Palmzweigen und Wappenschilden. Mit der Bewertung NGC (photo-certificate) UNC Details - Obv Rim Filed (5960012-004). GOLD. Leichte Prüfspur am Rand, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. Erworben 1938 bei der Firma Julius Jenke, München.'' Rim filed, extremely fine to uncirculated. Bought from Julius Jenke in 1938.)

<p>''Der Friede von Rijswijk vom 29. September 1697 beendete den Pfälzischen Erbfolgekrieg (1688-1697), der ganz Europa in Mitleidenschaft gezogen hatte. Louis XIV von Frankreich schloß Frieden mit Großbritannien, den Niederlanden, Spanien sowie mit Kaiser und Reich. Die Reichsstadt Nürnberg, die ihrem Friedenswunsch schon während des Dreißigjährigen Krieges durch zahlreiche Prägungen Ausdruck verliehen hatte, feierte mit dem hier angebotenen prachtvollen Fünfdukatenstück den Jahrestag der Beendigung des Krieges, der auch in Franken gewütet, vor allem aber große Teile des Rheinlands verwüstet hatte.'' The peace was shortlived, as the War of the Spanish Succession broke out in 1700.
