This specimen was lot 2454 in Goldberg sale 87 (Los Angeles, September 2015), where it sold for $3,290. The catalog description[1] noted,
"German States: Württemberg. Carolin, 1734-M. Fr-3589; KM-337. Karl Alexander, 1733-1737. M below bust for Christian Muller of Nuremberg. Obverse, bewigged armored bust of Duke right. Reverse, crowned shield of arms on detailed mantle. A handsome, mint state coin with a weight of just under 10 grams, it glistens with original luster. Lots of eye appeal. Seldom seen so nice. NGC graded MS-61.
Karl Alexander was born in Stuttgart, in the heart of Wurttemberg, southern Germany. In 1733 he assumed the role of Duke of Wurttemberg on the death of his cousin Eberhard Louis - but he only ruled for 4 years, and died suddenly, aged 52. In his earlier years he fought successfully in the War of the Spanish Succession and in the war against the Turks. A good army commander, fighting on the side of the Holy Roman Emperor Charles VI, he had been appointed (in 1720) as governor of the Kingdom of Serbia. During his reign in Wurttemberg, Karl Alexander employed the ill-fated Joseph Oppenheimer who was executed in 1738 for 'abuse of office' while working for Karl! Karl Alexander's coins are comparatively rare, especially in high grade."
