This specimen was lot 41379 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2019), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN. Escudo, 1623. Seville Mint. Philip IV (1621-65). NGC VF-30. Fr-211; KM-44.2; Cal-type-46. Assayer not on flan. Displaying the perfect combination of a fully centered shield on the obverse and an off center reverse strike that leaves the date fully visible on flan, a real RARITY for this denomination. Splashes of deep orange and red patina further add to the uniqueness of this piece and certainly help to qualify it as one of the more desirable survivors of this generally elusive type."

1623-S C, -S D, -S R; also 1628, 1646, 1659, also Madrid (1627, 1639 only). 3.43 g, .917 fine gold.
