This specimen was lot 42454 in Stack's Bowers Winter sale (Baltimore, November 2015), where it sold for $364.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Sicily. 4 Tari, 1648. Philip IV (1621-65). NGC AU-55. KM-21; SP-22. With little interest in the affairs of state, Phillip IV was a dedicated patron of the arts, compiling a collection that included many masterpieces by Rubens and Cano. The basis of today's collection at the Prado Museum is a legacy of his efforts. The coin offered here exhibits a marvelously clear portrait fully worthy of the lofty assigned grade. Any weakness is more the result of eroded dies than poor striking. A few minor flan imperfections, but overall a wonderful example of the issue with bright surfaces and great centering."
