This specimen was lot 723 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $___. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. Albertine Line. Taler, 1691-IK. Johann Georg III (1680-91). NGC Mint Error MS-61. Dav-7645; KM-617; Schnee-973. Double struck and rotated as noted by NGC, while certainly true as evidenced on the reverse by clear signs of the understrike inscription running perpendicular to the final strike not exactly an error in the way we think of them today and could probably best be described as a "do-over" when the initial strike was either weak or uneven. Nevertheless the extensive triple legend and fifteen line reverse inscription are full and legible, and the portrait of Johann Georg is fairly well defined. Evenly toned and attractive. From the Rockaway Collection."
