This specimen was lot 22680 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg. 1/4 Taler, 1717-IT. Gotha Mint. NGC MS-61. KM-194. From a mintage of only 1,656 pieces; struck to commemorate the bicentennial of the Reformation. Attractively preserved with deep multicolored hues over the surfaces. Highly popular as a type due to its reverse depiction of a storm (personified) battering a small sea island."
