This specimen was lot 31676 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $13,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "George V gold Sovereign 1924-SA MS64 NGC, KM21, S-4004, Hern-S338, Marsh 288 (R5). With a mintage of only 3,184 pieces, this is a key rarity of both the South African and wider sovereign series, and one which deserves the absolute attention of collectors in both fields. Its surfaces imbued with lustrous brilliance, its designs as sharp as the day it was struck, this specimen embodies the term 'mint state'. An example of the same grade in our auction 3030 January 2014 achieved a hammer price of $18,000."
