This specimen was part of lot 31306 in Heritage sale 3037 (New York, January 2015), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "An Incredibly Rare Proof Set--George VI 8-Piece 'Short' Proof Set 1939, 1/4 Penny (Farthing) - PR64 Brown NGC, 1/2 Penny - PR64 Brown NGC, Penny - PR64 Brown NGC, 3 Pence - PR64 NGC, 6 Pence - PR64 NGC, Shilling - PR63 NGC, 2 Shillings (Florin) - PR63 NGC, 2-1/2 Shillings - PR63 NGC. KM-PS14, Hern-P15. Mintage: 30 sets. Average grade: 63.625. Rarely offered as a complete set. All coins have completely natural surfaces and have clearly been kept in good care for the last 75 years. The last time we had the privilege of selling one of these sets was January, 2012, where a set with an average grade of 63.75 (essentially comparable to this set) sold for a hammer price of $45,000. This lot is certain to draw the attention of the South African specialist. Sold with the original case."
