This specimen was lot 70274 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $7,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Possibly San Martin de Texmolucan, Puebla. War of Independence. 8 Reales, ND (1811-14). NGC VF-20; Countermark: AU Strong. KM-B6 (Colombia). Oval dotted "S.M." and oval linear "VBP" monogram countermarks on a cast silver 1809-Mo TH 8 Reales (KM-110). An always popular type with some debate about the origins of this piece, hence why KM lists it in Colombia. Displaying with a deep gray patina, this piece is sure to excite many collector types."
