Summary

This specimen was lot 2578 in Steve Album Auction 52 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2025), where it sold for $60. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRUNSWICK-WOLFENBÜTTEL: Karl II Wilhelm Ferdinand, 1780-1806, AR 1/12 thaler, Braunschweig, 1789, mintmaster initials MC, very faint surface hairlines, lustrous fields, UNC." This denomination was first struck for this state in 1684. It was struck steadily throughout the eighteenth century, generally with the leaping stallion design shown here, until 1830. This type was struck 1780-1806 and is fairly common.
