This specimen was lot 21278 in Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "NORWAY. 1/2 Speciedaler, 1823/1. PCGS EF-45 Secure Holder. KM-302; Sieg-14; ABH-27A. From a reported mintage of only 6,100 pieces, noted in the SCWC as the key date of this three year type. In the ultimate example of marrying the boss's daughter, French general Charles Bernadotte married the heiress of the king of Sweden and became king himself in 1818. The current dynasty is descended from him. A couple of small unobtrusive planchet flaws on the obverse mentioned for accuracy. Good strike with deep old cabinet tone displaying lovely iridescent hues when tilted. Sure to excite even the most advanced collectors of Norwegian coins."
