This specimen was lot 24534 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $228. The catalog description[1] noted, "NEW ZEALAND. Auckland. M. Somerville. Penny Token, 1857. NGC MS-63 RB. Andrews-500; Lampard-342c; KM-TN64; Gray-249c; Renniks-484. Rarity 4. RARE. Wide and tightly spaced letters on reverse. Rose, Shamrocks and Thistle tied with ribbon, 'New Zealand' above, date below; Reverse: 'Wholesale Family Grocer City Mart' at center in three-lines, 'M. Somerville Auckland' around. Sharply struck with lovely gingerbread patina in the open fields and atop the devices and original mint red around the devices flowing seamlessly to the open fields. Quite an attractive example and sure to excite the collector of Tradesmen tokens. From the James Heegeman Collection."
