This specimen was lot 43482 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2019), where it sold for $1,020. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. War of Independence. Sombrerete. Real, 1811. NGC EF-40. KM-173. Denomination reads "1R". Far nicer than normally encountered of this typical crudely manufactured series. Most pertinent details present such as king's name and ordinal, "VARGAS", denomination, date and most central design features. Light attractive envelope tone with good eye appeal."
