This specimen was lot 39330 in Stack's Bowers Winter sale (Baltimore, November 2015), where it sold for $1,292.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, ND (1556-98) Assayer O. Philip II (1556-98). NGC VF-35. 27.4 gms. Cal-type-112#156; KM-43; Calb-607. Full crisp crown atop a clear shield. Nice round flan with good centering and virtually no strike doubling. Nearly full legends on both sides. Tone within the recessed areas providing a nice contrast to the devices. A fully original coin that has never seen saltwater like so many of other examples of the issue. An exceptional example of this type. Pedigree: From the David O'Harrow Collection."
