This specimen was lot 30177 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic 4 Reales 1856 Pi-MC XF45 NGC, San Luis Potosi mint, KM375.8. Wholesome and attractive for the designation with partial underlying luster and a good strike for the issue. A rare date of this elusive type, usually encountered in lower quality. Vastly superior to the Gerber example, currently the second finest certified example of the date by NGC behind an AU55 coin, rare and very desirable in this preservation since Mint State coins are unobtainable."
