This specimen was lot 31147 in Heritage sale 3041 (Chicago, August 2015), where it sold for $1,116.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Charles III gold Escudo 1769 Mo-MF AU53 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM 117, Cal-644. A well detailed coin with strong underlying luster, handsome toning and comparatively few contact marks, including a short scratch to the right of the bust. A scarcer date, missing in Norweb, Gerber and Eliasberg, seldom encountered in this quality, this being the finest of only two examples currently certified examples by NGC. From The Rudman Collection of Mexican Coins."
