This specimen was lot 30321 in Heritage sale 3037 (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $5,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic Caps and Rays 8 Reales 1866/5 A-PG AU55 PCGS, Alamos mint, KM 377, DP-As03 ("Extremely Rare... very few specimens known"). The overdate 1866/5 as all are. Essentially as struck with only minute wear on the higher points, considerably lustrous surfaces and well struck for the issue with good details on the eagle's breast. Rated in Dunigan-Parker as "without a doubt the rarest (8 Reales) from the Alamos mint" and deservedly so. This very attractive specimen is the finest seen by the cataloguer (the other was graded XF) and undoubtedly among the very finest known. It should draw sustained attention from the specialists of this fascinating series."
