This specimen was lot 31246 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $8,812.50. The catalog description[1] noted,
"Republic gold 8 Escudos 1839 Do-RM MS64 NGC, Durango mint, KM383.3, Fr-68. Choice Mint State, well struck and with practically full mint luster. Truly a wonderful type coin for this mint's early issues. Currently the highest graded Durango 8 Escudos by NGC and among the very finest seen of the type. An interesting note: albeit struck from almost identical dies as the next lot, some differences can be found: the position of the incipient die breaks on the present lot compared to those (far more evident) on that one, and the position of the "9" in the date. Nevertheless, all other letters and devices are identically placed in both dies, lending the cataloguer to believe the die-sinker was producing dies from a finished hub, only date 183x, and punching the last digit "9" into them. The various die breaks are thus a testimony to the bad quality of the dies themselves, rather than evidence of a single pair of dies deteriorating. From The Law Collection."
