This specimen was lot 31230 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $1,997.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 4 Escudos 1856 Mo-GF AU58 NGC, Mexico City mint, Km381.6, Fr-77. Choice About Uncirculated and very lustrous, a very desirable specimen of this uncommon date, missing from the Gerber, Norweb and Eliasberg collections (Long: "very scarce"). Long reports 6/5 and 6/8 overdates. This coin is clearly an example of the latter - albeit not indicated as such in the slab - with another letter ("C"?) under the "F" assayer initial as well. This would seem more logical since one previous known date in this series is precisely the 1848 GC one. From The FoxLair Collection."
