This specimen was lot 31203 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $881.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold Escudo 1857/1 C-CE MS61 NGC, KM379, Fr-98. Mint State and quite lustrous. A rare date for this type: Long correctly rated the date as "rare ... only occasionally available" and only could trace a few offerings with the highest grade example being XF. Only two specimens of this elusive coin have been certified by NGC, the other one an AU55 piece. From The FoxLair Collection."
