This specimen was lot 22329 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $10,575. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Republic gold 8 Escudos 1863/53 Mo-CH, KM383.9, MS65 NGC. An exceptionally fine piece from a famous collection. This wonderful example has gorgeous mellow gold luster and near-flawless surfaces. It is perfectly centered with sharp rims, and only very slight softness of strike in the central areas, producing excellent eye appeal and is, all-in-all, a delightful example of the Hand on Book 8 Escudos. The discerning collector would have trouble finding another the equal of this Gem piece. Ex: Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr. Collection."
