Livorno_1718_doppia_obv_H3030-24568.jpg(450 × 443 pixels, file size: 74 KB, MIME type: image/jpeg)

This specimen was lot 24568 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $9,106.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Livorno. Cosimo III gold Doppia (Pezza d'oro della Rosa) 1718, KM 40, Fr-466, MS63 NGC. Three-year type. A wonderfully designed issue that illustrates a crowned shield on the obverse with a thorned rose bush on the reverse. Very choice, and rather desirable as such, with bright yellow-gold surfaces that remain nearly free of contact. Tied with one other example for the finest graded of the type at NGC. From the collection of Donald E. Bently, sold for the benefit of the Bently Foundation."
