This specimen was lot 1130 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $3,290. The catalog description[1] noted, "HONDURAS. 1/2 Real, 1823-TL. Tegucigalpa Mint. NGC EF-40. KM-9. Jara-Figure 31,CJ-11. EXTREMELY RARE. Provisional issue from the 'T.L.' series. All of the coinage of the 'T.L.' series should be considered RARE. This short lived series occurs directly following the round provisional coinage. It serves as somewhat of a missing link between those and the later provisional imitative cob types of 1823 and 1824. Nicely toned with a very clear date for this type."
