This specimen was lot 935 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €1,200 (about US$1,550 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"HESSEN-KASSEL, LANDGRAFSCHAFT, Friedrich II. 1760-1785. Konv.-Taler 1765, Kassel. (landgraviate of Hesse-Cassel, Frederick II, 1760-85, convention thaler of 1765, Cassel mint. Scarce, nice toning, extremely fine. The unusual position of the lion on the reverse is likely to represent the strained relations of the courts Kassel and Hanau. The right lion seems to gasp for the Order of the Garter and the overlying coat of arms of Hanau. Since Frederick had repeatedly declared but never obtained his rights in Hanau, it is shown here as a snapping lion. The court in Kassel was not likely as a public demonstration and tried to collect this character again.)"
