This specimen was lot 651 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $3,525. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Hesse-Darmstadt. Taler, 1760. Ludwig VIII (1739-68). NGC EF Details--Obverse Graffiti. Dav-2323; KM-201. VERY RARE. Minor graffiti on obverse field in front of bust that is well hidden by the dark toning. From the Rockaway Collection."
