This specimen was lot 29751 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it sold for $1,351.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Hesse-Darmstadt. Ludwig II gold 5 Gulden 1840 CV-HR MS62 NGC, KM301, Fr-1232. Bearing beautifully-reflective fields and somewhat frosty devices, this small but impressive gold issue is in a highly-desirable Mint-State designation and contains an ample amount of coppery bloom that dazzles upon rotation."
