This specimen was lot 32208 in Heritage sale 3041 (Chicago, August 2015), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Hesse-Darmstadt. Ludwig X gold 10 Gulden 1826-HR MS65 NGC, KM 293, Fr-1230. A brilliant Gem Mint State example of this rare coinage. With a mintage of just 1,700 pieces, it is no surprise that it is not a type readily available, and basically unheard of in this grade. Though about a dozen or so examples have been sold in Germany in the last 15 years, there have been none offered in the United States. Further suggesting to its great rarity outside of Europe, this is the single example of this type, for either date struck, seen by either NGC or PCGS. Highly lustrous fields and subtly frosted devices give this coin superb eye appeal, and we expect to see active bidding for this special piece."
