This specimen was lot 30819 in Heritage sale 3049 (Long Beach, September 2016), where it sold for $5,052.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Frankfurt. Free City Proof 2 Taler 1840 PR63 Cameo PCGS, KM 325. A one-year issue that celebrates the opening of the new Mint, with fully reflective fields and delicate cameo contrast across the raised features. While the business-strike version asserts a small mintage figure of just 649 pieces, one can presume an even smaller number of those struck in Proof. Seldom offered, and currently the only certified example of the type, and highly engaging as such."
