This specimen was lot 20493 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $5,760. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. 5 Franc, 1863-A. Paris Mint. PCGS MS-64 Secure Holder. Gad-739; KM-799.1; VG-3753. From a mintage of 14,997 pieces. Intricately detailed with absolutely shimmering luster in the fields and only the faintest instances of handling that determine the grade. RARE in Mint State and almost never seen in comparable quality, the one exception in archived auction records being an ungraded example that was sold as FDC (fleur-de-coin) in a 2017 MDC (Monaco) auction and brought 6,000 Euros (approximately $7,150) hammer. Ex: Heritage auction, June 2007, Lot #50786."

F.331/5, m. 14,997.
