This specimen was lot 20416 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Ecu, 1724-N. Montpellier Mint. Louis XV (1715-74). NGC MS-63+. Dav-1329; KM-472.14; Gad-320; Dr/5-745. An "ecu aux 8 L" struck at the Montpellier mint; a better date of a scarce type. Unlike the prior "ecu de France", this type was struck solely on new blanks. Although there are adjustment marks on the obverse and evidence of rusty dies, this example is well made with a bold strike from center to edge and handsome toning that is mostly gray and gold in composition with slight variances around portions of the raised surfaces. The finest example of the date graded at either NGC or PCGS."
Dr/4 no. 818, Dr/2 no. 574, 23.59 g, .917 fine silver, 38-39 mm diameter, lettered edge. m. 301,547 + 152,106 of the écu de France.
