This specimen was lot 20424 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it sold for $6,462.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Louis d'Or, 1653-A. Louis XIV (1643-1715). NGC MS-63. Fr-418; KM-157.1; Gad-245; Dupl-1422. From the first year the Sun King ruled without a regent. An exceptionally CHOICE MINT STATE example that is free of haymarks or other detriments somewhat common to the few other surviving high grade pieces. Brilliant, with a nice strike bringing out all of the detail in the portrait. Generally without tone, and sporting bright yellow as struck surfaces. A truly imposing piece with full claims to the lofty grade, and a coin sure to make a meaningful contribution to the collection it joins."
