This specimen was lot 20239 in Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Medallic 5 Francs Struck in Silver, 1814. Marseille Mint. NGC MS-62. Maz-801A, KM-M11a. RARE with a low mintage of only 60 pieces. Though noted as an ESSAI on the NGC insert, the SCWC correctly notes this as medallic coinage, being struck to commemorate the visit of the Comte d'Artois to the Marseille mint in October 1814. The Comte d'Artois was the king's brother who ascended the throne as Charles X in 1824. The SCWC notes this type in bronze (KM M11), silver (KM 11a, 60 pieces reported as stated above) and gold (KM 11b, unique). Well struck and attractive old cabinet tone in the peripheries and amongst the devices. The reverse displays a more mottled tone highlighted with hues of blue. A lovely example sure to excite."
