This specimen was lot 20175 in Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $1,560. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Ecu d'Or, ND (1541). Rouen Mint. Francis I. NGC MS-62. Fr-351; Dupl-889; Ciani-1091. "écu d'or à la croisette, premiere type" struck for François I at Rouen ("B" mintmark, one of the first coins issued after the mintmark reform). Sharply struck on a round flan with only a few tiny weak spots. Distinctly superior to the "écu d'or à la croisette" we sold at the ANA (August 2017, lot 20236). Full legends on both sides, soft satin luster and good eye appeal."

3.43 g, .958 fine, 45 s. t. also demi-écu d'or.
