This specimen was lot 20160 in Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. 1/2 Heaume d'Or, ND(ca.1418). La Rochelle Mint. Charles VI (1380-1422). NGC EF-45. Fr-296; Dupl-374A. This very rare type was struck at Poitiers and La Rochelle (shown here). The confused politics of the time prevent us from saying whether it was issued by the dauphin, the Burgundians or the English. This specimen is slightly out of round and a little wavy but the helmeted arms ("heaume" = helmet) are bold. Our first offering of this type. Nicely struck, attractive and sure to please the new owner."
demi-heaume d'or: 2.54 g, .916 fine gold, 20 s.t.
