This specimen was lot 20139 in Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Ecu d'Or, ND (1343). Philip VI de Valois (1328-50). NGC MS-63. Fr-270; Dupl-249A. "écu d'or à la chaise" from the second emission of April 1343. Sharply struck on a nice round flan with full legends on both sides. Highly lustrous and a lovely example."
Dupl-249 (1st em. Jan. 1337), 1.000 fine gold, 4.53 g, 20 sols tournois; Dupl-249A (2nd em. April 1343) 16 sols, 8 deniers tournois; Dupl-249B (3rd e., Jan. 1348) 18 sols, 8 deniers tournois; Dupl-249C (4th em., Aug. 1348), 20 sols tournois; Dupl-249D: (5th em., March 1349, .916 fine gold, 4.53 g, 25 sols).
