This specimen was lot 30759 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $1,500. The catalog description[1] noted, "Louis XIV gold Louis d'or 1695-E AU58 PCGS, Tours mint, KM 302.7, Fr-433, Gad-252 (R3). An extremely rare date and mint combination for this series, this being the sole example certified by either NGC or PCGS. The obverse die shows evidence of rust giving a speckled texture to the surface, but this does not disguise the bold portrait of Louis nor the fully-defined strike. A lustrous and fetching rarity."

Dr/4 no. 412, m. est. 2,000 fn, no rf. unpriced in Droulers.
