This specimen was lot 23844 in Heritage sale 3012 (New York, January 2011), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Louis XIIII 1/4 Ecu 1688L, KM260.2, MS63 NGC, a superbly struck example with no distracting adjustment marks or other flaws to the planchet. The surfaces display full original mint luster with subtle gold and gray patina. There is one spot behind the bust which appears to be superficial oxidation. Rarely offered type with the quartered shield of France on the reverse."
