This specimen was lot 20369 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "ECUADOR. 2 Reales, 1833-GJ. Quito Mint. NGC VF-20. KM-14; Seppa-37; Letort-31. VERY RARE. Far and away the best date in this four year series, and also the first year struck. Much less frequently encountered than either the Real or 1/2 Real with similar design. From the formative years of Ecuador as an independent nation, and historically significant as such. Aside from honest wear, a coin that exhibits many desirable traits: Never cleaned, repaired, or otherwise doctored, the coin is quite exceptional for these reasons alone. For the issue, very high quality, with no surface porosity or laminations, and smooth surfaces free of defects. Lightly toned and reasonably well centered, a coin that is sure to attract intense interest from specialists in this area of South American numismatics."
