This specimen was lot 40221 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1791-JJ 2 Escudos. Santa Fe de Nuevo Reino (Bogotá) mint. Carlos IV (1788-1808). Restrepo 87.8. AU-50 (PCGS). The very elusive final date of this transitional type. Attractive light yellow gold with a good bit of residual luster, especially on the reverse. This is among the boldest recut dates in the series, with 791 broadly recut and visible to the left. Nice and sharp with only scattered marks. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins. Ex. Mike Dunigan, May 1985."
