This specimen was lot 40138 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $1,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1763-JV 2 Escudos. Santa Fe de Nuevo Reino (Bogotá) mint. Carlos III (1759-1788). Restrepo 60.3. AU Detail — Cleaned (PCGS). Well struck and boldly defined, with light yellow gold surfaces yielding to darker orange toning at the peripheries. Some hairlines remain at centers from an old abrasive cleaning. An impressive die crack arcs from the forehead through RE of REX. Attractive and high grade, a fine and collectible example of this type. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins. Ex. Ponterio and Wyatt, August 1980."
