This specimen was lot 40116 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1757-SJ 2 Escudos. Santa Fe de Nuevo Reino (Bogotá) mint. Ferdinand VI (1746-1759). Restrepo 16.6. AU-50 (PCGS). Light yellow gold with strong, even eye appeal. Scattered handling marks and hairlines are present, but none are individually distracting. A trace of luster survives at the peripheries. This is an elusive issue, called rare by Restrepo. Only the 1757-J variety was present in the Eliasberg sale. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins. Ex. Stack's, May 1969."
Nuevo Reino (KM 30.1, Fr-19) struck 1756-60 and Popayan (KM 30.2, Fr-20) struck 1758-60. assayers S, SJ, J for 1757.
