This specimen was lot 40046 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $1,140. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1789-JJ Escudo. Santa Fe de Nuevo Reino (Bogotá) mint. Carlos IV (1788-1808). Restrepo 82.2. MS-62 (PCGS). The rare Bogotá debut of the Carlos IV Escudo series, struck in the name of Carlos IV but with a portrait of Carlos III. Light yellow gold with good visual appeal, some luster, and no major issues. The obverse is aligned to the right, reverse to the left, limiting some denticles. A handsome example of this elusive first year of the type. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins. Ex. Spink America's sale of the Norweb Collection, March 1997, lot 309 (part)."

KM 54.1, Fr-49.
