This specimen was lot 33849 in Heritage sale 3076 (Long Beach, CA, September 2019), where it sold for $432. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Cologne. Archbishop Ruprecht (1463-1480) gold Goldgulden ND (1463-1464) AU Details (Mount Removed) NGC, Riel mint, Fr-798, Noss-403a/a var (no marks of contraction or stops on reverse). 3.18 g. First Period. *ROBЄRT' * Є | LЄC' * ЄCL CO', half figure of St. Peter, mantled and nimbate, facing, gospels in left hand, keys in right; shield below / MOn | nOVΛ | ΛVRЄ | ΛRIL, long cross over shield. A covetable example from this earliest period of Ruprecht's coinage, bordering on very rare at this AU level, with bold die polish still visible in the fields. The mount removal appears at 3 o'clock, but is rather well done and hardly distracting. From the Allen Moretti Swiss Collection."

  • (1463-64) goldgulden slightly scarcer than other types from this ruler (Fr-799 goldgulden, Fr-800 goldgulden, Fr-801 goldgulden).
