This specimen was lot 30601 in Heritage sale 3049 (Long Beach, September 2016), where it sold for $1,410. The catalog description[1] noted, "Ferdinand VII 1/2 Real 1817 So-FI AU55 NGC, Santiago mint, KM 64, Cal-Unl, Cayon-Unl. The final year from this series but with the scarcer assayer initials (FI). This argent-gray specimen features the laureate head of Ferdinand VII with crowned arms, surrounded by remnants of luster and fields that are free of any major handling issues, other than a small wisp noted across the King's portrait. The two major Spanish references do not have a listing for this assayer variety, and the most recent (and perhaps only) record we were able to locate was from the Aureo-Calico auction 267 of 2015 (VF condition) that hammered for 1300 Euros. This present offering presents far more detail, and as such should bring a much higher price."
