This specimen was lot 30590 in Heritage sale 3049 (Long Beach, September 2016), where it sold for $5,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "Charles III 8 Reales 1784 So-DA VF35 NGC, Santiago mint, KM 31. Large Mintmark variety. Among the more affordable examples of the type, and yet still incredibly elusive with a single example of both mintmark varieties (this coin) graded between NGC and PCGS and no raw examples appearing in our search of archived auction results. As an unflawed, highly original example, all-the-more desirable, and for the specialist of early Chilean coinage, an undeniably important offering."
