This specimen was lot 29494 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it sold for $2,937.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Charles III gold 8 Escudos 1780 So-DA MS63 NGC, Santiago mint, KM27, Onza-935. Choice Mint State with highly lustrous fields and few noticeable surface contact marks thus quite attractive for the assigned grade. Struck from clashed and slightly rough obverse dies as observed of several other specimens of the date (see lot 181 in Aureo's 11/2012 auction or lot 1860 in CNG's 1/2006 auction for two such examples). Very rare and desirable in this technical designation, currently the single finest certified of the type by NGC and a a coin that would be most difficult to improve upon."
