This specimen was lot 20493 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it sold for $4,700. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel. Taler, 1746-IBH. Karl I (1735-80). NGC MS-64. Dav-2145; KM-883; Welt-2719. Finest graded not only for date, but for type as well at both NGC and PCGS. A fully struck masterpiece of numismatic art, with the Wildman as crisp and lifelike as any seen on coinage from this German State. Ample light clear toning featuring apricot, pear and seafoam green, that creates a visual treat of incomparable beauty. A coin which absolutely dwarfs all of its peers, and one sure to become a prized addition to the collection it joins."
