This specimen was lot 23183 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $8,812.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 20000 Reis 1922, KM 497, Russo-737, MS64 NGC. Conditionally rare at the near-Gem level with the present example exhibiting luminous yellow-gold luster with soft cloudy patination that haloes the legends and obverse centers. A marvelous example that is just about abrasion-free with nearly microscopic handling that prevents the Gem grade. An ideal specimen for the high-end type enthusiast."
